Introducing Michael Maurer, Field Orthopaedics Vice President of Technology.
It’s time for our next Hands Up and this month we chatted with our Vice President of Technology - Michael Maurer.
Michael began his journey with us three years ago as our Head of Research and Development and progressed into his current role as Vice President of Technology.
Michael looks after the entire technology arm of our business and his background in product development, R&D and physiotherapy has allowed him to bring unique skills and a different perspective to this role, which we are very lucky to have.
His work at Field Orthopaedics requires lots of different skills, which are at times very technical, and at other times extremely creative.
“The main skill we have to use working collaboratively between engineers, surgeons and commercial partners is communication skills - so that everyone is aligned on the vision.”
During his time at Field, Michael has found it rewarding to see “new products materialise and play a role in helping orthopaedics surgeons and patients get the best possible outcomes.”
When asked what advice he would give to someone looking to progress in the medical device sector, he said “step out of your comfort zone to get exposure to different areas with different opportunities as they present themselves. It is really important to get a broader perspective and knowledge.”
The Field CLEAR team value that resonates with Michael the most is L - Love our customers.
“Through our R&D it’s really important for us to make sure we are addressing the needs of all of our customers: including orthopaedic surgeons, patients, manufacturers and distribution partners.”
In Michael’s free time, he is the father of two little ones that keep him very busy!
