Introducing Jayaraman Somu, Head of Manufacturing at Field Orthopaedics
After joining Field in 2019, Jayaraman “Jaya” recently reached a key milestone with us, celebrating 5 years with the Field Orthopaedics team.
During his time with us, Jaya has played a key role in the quality assurance of our products and prioritising their feasibility in the market - with the end goal of helping hand surgeons and their patients.
Jaya carries with him a wealth of knowledge, seen through his 20+ years experience as a mechanical engineer and 15 years in the medical device industry.
After first starting as a mechanical engineer in the automobile industry, Jaya’s true calling soon found him and he moved into the medical device industry, working with orthopaedic devices and instruments.
Some of the key projects Jaya has seen through with Field Orthopaedics include the start-to-end development of the Micro Screw and the NX Nail System, including all the phases of the development and market entry for the Sterile NX Nail.
Jaya finds working at Field “an exciting journey, and everyone is always passionate to continue to innovate. We are all happy to take on the challenge to make surgeons' lives easier and provide minimally invasive options for patients.”
Jaya’s drive for innovation continues to be at the forefront of everything he does and has inspired him to make his career in change and innovation.
He says for others wanting to delve into the medical device industry, “it’s important to keep in mind - our product is being used to help people. So we always need to prioritise safety and quality over everything else.”
What’s next for Jaya? He wants to continue his passion for the industry and continue to learn about the ever-evolving landscape of the medical device industry.
